Introduction to Lean and Agile

Lean and Agile are fast changing the world of IT

Business wants better results faster

For years, we have believed that more and better processes would deliver better results. We have focused on the repeatability of processes; of covering all bases, making sure that there are no loopholes. Efficacity of processes has been optimized.

Turns out that we have ignored the efficiency of processes: speed, simplicity, the Pareto rule (20 % of the effort for 80 % of the result). We have also ignored the power of team work and the creativity and engagement of knowledge workers. ICT should be the driver of innovation. Instead, it has become a slow bureaucracy that delivers late, over budget and poorly aligned to what business really needs by the time it finally delivers.

Learn how to turn this around using Lean - agile. Faster delivery. Focus on building quality into the product instead of monitoring it as after-thought through heavy processes. Mobilize your work force and go for Autonomy, Mastery and Purpose.

Business people and managers keen on turning around IT and making it  faster and more responsive will get a great introduction with challenging ideas. We also organize this class for consultants who want to upgrade their CV by becoming a SAFe Agilist (see our SAFe Agilist Training) and have little previous experience with Lean and Agile. The SAFe training basically assumes some background in Lean-Agile. This class will help you benefit more from the SAFe training.

Agile concepts, tools and techniques are rapidly gaining acceptance. Half the requests for project managers, business analysts and programmers currently require at least basic knowledge about agile methods.

This class will give an introduction to Scrum, XP and Kanban during half a day. It will allow you to become familiar with the ideas and practices, definitions, roles and techniques.

Lean techniques (Kanban, Just In Time, eliminating waste ...) have revolutionized the world of manufacturing and distribution. More recently, Lean has started to make headway in IT. Lean now finds itself a natural partner of Agile practices. This new Lean-Agile approach is helping IT to finally achieve better quality and responsiveness to business needs, at lower cost and faster speed.

The second half of the class will give an introduction to Lean in general and the principles that play a role in Lean IT. It will allow you to become familiar with the ideas and practices, definitions, roles and techniques.
